Child denied school enrollment due to dreadlocks 

By Zoila Palma Gonzalez: Ladyville resident, Kevin Pollard says his son was denied enrollment at 2 primary schools in Ladyville due to his deadlocks. 

Pollard added that the Ladyville Evangelical School said that one of the requirements was that the boys are not allowed to have long hair. 

He further stated that he then visited the Ladyville SDA primary and was told the same thing.

“I would like for this discrimination to end because it is being victimized. You will tell me that because you have dreadlocks you cannot attend school. I think that the classification of people with dreadlocks should come to an end,” Pollard said during an interview with Love FM.

Pollard says that his son’s hair is well taken care of.

“My son’s hair is well taken care of, what does his hair has to do with his learning? yet we have people in our country that hold big positions and are very professional, such as Attorneys, CEO in GOB, Doctors, business owners, Teachers, a previous Minister and many others. As a Society, as a Country how can we allow this, are you telling me that we cannot be Rastafarians in Belize?,” he said on a Facebook post.
