By Rubén Morales Iglesias: “Congratulations to those UDP Villages we held yesterday, especially our Deputy Party Leader who won almost all his Villages!” said United Democratic Party (UDP leader Shyne Barrow in a social media post, making special mention of Cristo Rey, Bladden, Santa Ana, Buena Vista, and Cattle Landing. These last two he asterisked with the word ‘Independent’ beside.

He said that so far during the present village council elections the UDP is performing better.

“In the 2020 general elections we won 10 Villages the most. The fact that we have already tripled that total is a remarkable accomplishment to say the least,” he said.

While hitting the People’s United Party for “doing a horrendous job since being elected”, he acknowledged that “the UDP still has massive work to do in most of our Constituencies in order to reconnect with our people and rebuild the confidence”.

Barrow then reviewed the reason for the UDP’s downfall in the last general elections.

“There are a myriad of reasons we lost 26 seats. There are many broken relationships that need repairs, many wounds that need healing, many divisions that need unification for the common goal of serving our people to be achieved,” he wrote.

Barrow said that after 13 consecutive years of being in power and two years of ‘internal turmoil’, the UDP has as ‘a colossal task of rebuilding’, so they can return to government.

“This ginormous task requires all hands on deck thus while there is room for private dissent and ventilation of the diverse opinions as to how we return to glory, there is absolutely no room for destructive public actions that will erode the already fragile public trust in the UDP and lead to further divide and destabilization,” said Barrow.

“There is no room for inaction, no room to just sit by and do nothing while our brothers and sisters are toiling in the battlefields, if you are not doing something to help us win in the Villages then you are helping us to lose.”

The UDP leader then called on the UDP followers and sympathizers to join him.

“Let us continue to fight in every Village; let us continue to offer hope and amends to our people; let us show them that we are with them, win, lose or draw. Let us show our people the indomitable UDP spirit!” he closed.
