By Zoila Palma Gonzalez: A report by Reuters says that a White House official has confirmed that the U.S. made the final decision to exclude the governments of Cuba, Venezuela, and Nicaragua from the Summit of the Americas.

The Summit of the Americas is being hosted by the U.S. and will be held in Los Angeles. U.S. President Joe Biden is scheduled to open the Summit on Wednesday.

The Summit of the Americas is being held under the theme “ Building a Sustainable, Resilient, and Equitable Future” for the hemisphere.

The U.S. noted that it would work with the region’s stakeholders on improving pandemic response and resilience, promoting green and equitable recovery, and building strong and inclusive democracies.

Mexico’s President, Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador has publicly stated that he will not attend since not all leaders of the region were included in the Summit. Mexico’s Foreign Minister will represent at the summit.

Washington officials say that despite the absences, the summit will be a success.
