BTL responds to statements made on its acquisition of Alternative Networks Ltd.

Contributed by The Belize Telemedia Limited: Belize Telemedia Limited (BTL) wishes to correct misleading statements made by the Leader of the Opposition regarding the acquisition of Alternative Networks Limited (ANL); an Internet Protocol Television (IPTV) provider that offers the ability to stream media via internet networks. 

The natural evolution of telecom companies globally has been the acquisition of companies that enable them to diversify revenues by delivering Content Services (TV) to their customers over a Fibre Network. There is a growing demand for content services in both Belize and abroad; and as such, content entertainment is not dying. 

With the acquisition of ANL, BTL will be the only Quad Play Services Provider offering Fixed Telephony, Mobile, Broadband, and Content; a one-stop-shop for the people of Belize. BTL completed a comprehensive due diligence following the company’s decision to pursue the path of industry consolidation in 2018. This included an analysis of the streaming content that comes with the contracts to identify any pirated material. 

BTL continues to operate with complete transparency and all decisions made are influenced by business opportunities that align with our strategic objectives to offer even more benefits for our Shareholders and the people of Belize. Over the past four years, the company has invested heavily in providing services to the country via its Fibre to the Home Network and the only submarine fibre cables from mainland Belize to San Pedro , and with this new investment BTL will maximize the use of these infrastructures. 

Additionally, we are proud to announce that BTL continues its turnaround path and unaudited figures at the end of the Fiscal Year 2021-2022 show that our net profits increased Yo Y of the 86% to the $16.1 million.
