Minister Oscar Mira is incensed with sale of part of the Isidoro Beaton Stadium grounds

By Rubén Morales Iglesias: Minister of State of Defense and Area Representative for the Belmopan area Oscar Mira says he is incensed with the sale of part of Isidoro Beaton Stadium grounds.

“I am so angry,” wrote Mira on social media on Tuesday. “Recently I found out that part of Isidoro Beaton Stadium was cut off and sold by the previous Mayor Khalid Belisle witnessed by his then secretary Ms. Moore. Every time we think that we have discovered all the parcels he sold, we find more. It is infuriating every time we discover another buffer sold, parks leased, other parcels paid for, and no title, leaving this administration with the mess.”

According to Mira, a corner section of the sporting facility grounds was sold to a Belmopan businessman, whom he doesn’t identify, for $200,000. Mira questioned all concerned with the sale and asked the businessman to return the land.

“I am asking this businessman that if he loves Belmopan, he should return this parcel of land to the Belmopan City Council and to the residents of this Capital City. If it was me, I would NEVER have accepted this parcel of land knowing it’s part of our stadium. I would not have the heart to take it from the rightful owners, the residents of Belmopan,” said Mira.

He went on to say that the parcel is needed as parking is a problem at the sporting facility.

“Anyone who has attended a football game at the Isidoro knows that parking is a problem, people end up parking on the running path, and in any space available. All while right behind the stadium, the area set aside for PARKING has been sold,” he wrote.

Mira, who said he is a football team owner, said they need to fight to regain the parking lot and asked the Belmopan Football Association to join the fight and use its platform to regain the land.

At the same time, Mira questioned the previous area representative John Saldivar if he had any knowledge of the sale.

“The last question is, what happened to the $200,000.00 that it was allegedly sold for?” said Mira.
