By Aaron Humes: Liquor licensing laws explicitly prohibit drinking liquor at a shop owner’s premises, or indeed in public.
Today, the Chinese owner of Ar Wing Shop on Santa Barbara Street in Belize City and two patrons were charged – him for permitting the consumption of liquor on his premises contrary to the Intoxicating Liquor Licensing Act; the patrons for drinking in public.
37-year-old Wen Wei Yang pleaded not guilty to a single charge of permitting the consumption of liquor on premises by Barrington Anthony Thompson and Vanessa Carillo. He was offered and met bail of $1,000 and returns to court on August 5.
Both Carillo and Thompson pleaded guilty to the charge of public drinking, which carries a $25 fine and cost of court due by the end of June; in default, a week each at Central Prison, Hattieville.
