By Rubén Morales Iglesias: Coach David Pérez has dropped striker Deon McCaulay from the line-up and inserted midfielder Horace Avila and forward Jesse August into the Belize lineup as our team faces French Guiana this afternoon in the Concacaf Nations League.
Over the first two games, Pérez has taken McCaulay out just after the 55th minute. Today, his plan may be to have younger legs for the first half of the match against the strongest team in Group D, and then insert McCaulay in the second half to have a better closing against the South American squad.
Avila started the first game and showed a lot of determination pushing forward against the Dominican Republic but was dropped from the starting line-up in the second game though he did get some playing time. And again, he pushed forward against Guatemala. August, for his part, has entered the fray in the second half in the first two games and has obviously satisfied the Spanish coach.
Norman Anderson appears to have fallen in disfavour with Pérez. He started in the first game but was dropped for the second though the coach had no choice but to put Anderson in when Jose Urbina got injured against Guatemala. But looking for more offense, Pérez took him out in the second half. Anderson will warm the bench today.
Tony Rocha, who got injured in the match against the Dominican Republic, is not yet 100 percent so he is not starting
After a formidable game against Guatemala, Charles Tillett is again the starting keeper. In front of him Eugene Martinez, DeShawon Nembhard, and Everal Trapp will man the defence. Darrell Myvett, Nana Mensah, and Avila will control the middle with Angelo Capello and Krisean Lopez playing the wings just ahead of them. August and Carlos Bernárdez will play up front.
The bench will be populated by goalkeepers Isaac Castillo and Earl Dyck; defenders Norman Anderson, Jose Urbina, Aaron Lopez, and Donell Arzu; midfielders Jovaunn Ramos, Warren Moss, Tony Rocha, Eldon Reneau, and Luis Torres; and forward Deon McCaulay.
The match starts at 4:00 pm at the FFB Stadium in Belmopan.
