“The crops have flowered and spoiled due to Minister Mai allowing import license for Mexican carrots and the inability for the Government to control contraband,” said Barrow in a social media post on Wednesday after a visit to San Carlos, Orange Walk, a carrot producing area.
Minister of Agriculture Jose Abelardo Mai said earlier that overproduction was causing a slowdown of the carrots market, but Barrow pointed out that the farmers say otherwise.
“The farmers say it has nothing to do with overproduction! The pup Government needs to stop giving license for Mexican importation of any produce our farmers are selling until our Belizean farmers have had a chance to sell their crop,” said Barrow
