Aaron Chavez, arraigned for theft of over $10,000 worth of items, escapes while being transported to prison

By Aaron Humes: In an update to Thursday night’s story on the theft of Alex Ellis’s camera and bag which occurred last week on Regent Street West and the subsequent arrest of 18-year-old Aaron Chavez and arraignment in court, police say he managed to escape them on his way to the Central Prison on remand.

Chavez reportedly jumped out of the pan of the truck near Mile 8 on the George Price Highway. Police today said he remains on the run.

Chavez had appeared in court on Thursday, was denied bail and remanded until July 25. He has two other pending charges for robbery and theft.

Ellis’ camera bag and equipment, to a total value of over $10,000 was found hidden in an abandoned bushy lot on East Collet Canal.
