Magistracy and Judiciary hit by COVID again; court closed early, re-opens on Friday

Posted: Friday, June 10, 2022. 7:01 am CST.

By Aaron Humes: Recently, COVID-19 case numbers have been rapidly increasing and it has once again affected the courts.

The Belize City Magistrate’s Court was forced yesterday to quickly close its doors to the general public after confirming six new cases of the virus among staff. But quick action ensures their doors will be open this morning, Friday.

Late yesterday evening, a cleaning company made their way to the court and began a thorough cleaning to get the building properly sanitized.

The court was only open for half the day while the cases were being confirmed and necessary steps to secure the staff and public were executed.

Last week, a total of ten COVID-19 cases were confirmed among staff at the Belize City Supreme Court.
