She got an STD during car sex: Now, insurance company could pay her $5.2 million

By BBN Staff: A woman who contracted a sexually transmitted infection after having sex with her partner in a vehicle insured by Geico could be looking at a $5.2 million payout.

The woman says that she caught the human papillomavirus (HPV) from having sex with her then-partner in his car.

And this week, the courts upheld a judgment that awarded her a hefty settlement – to be paid by Geico, the insurance company with which the vehicle was insured.

Reports say that the woman found out she was infected with HPV in 2018, and claimed her former partner knew he had virus but did not disclose his condition.

 In 2021, she informed Geico of her intent to seek compensation for damages of $1m citing that the policy covered her injuries.

At that time, the insurance company denied coverage and refused that offer.

The woman and her former partner then entered arbitration. The arbitrator sided with her.

The arbitrator determined “there was sexual activity in [insured’s] automobile” that “directly caused, or directly contributed to cause” the woman to be infected with HPV, despite the man’s existing knowledge of his positive HPV diagnosis.

She was awarded $5.2m in damages, to be paid by Geico.

But the company has appealed the judgement and said that it is yet to be determined whether there is coverage for that.
