By Aaron Humes: 56-year-old Mario “Scurvy” Haylock of Castle Street, Belize City, will spend the next year in jail after being convicted of the theft of a bicycle he was entrusted to drop off.

According to security guard Ashton Nicasio, he asked Haylock, whose nickname is “Scurvy,” to deliver a 26-inch red male’s beach cruiser bicycle to his cousin on King Street on Sunday, and also gave him ten dollars.

But the cousin said he hadn’t gotten the bike and Nicasio was forced to report it stolen.

Haylock pleaded guilty. He was previously fined for wounding but had not paid the fine. The court sentenced him to the default three months’ imprisonment plus one year for the theft to be served concurrently, however, the theft sentence is larger so he will be held for at least a year.
