St. Martin’s Credit Union celebrates 71st Annual General Meeting

Posted: Sunday, June 12, 2022. 10:25 am CST.

CONTRIBUTED: On Friday, May 27, 2022, the St. Martin’s Credit Union celebrated its 71st Annual General Meeting. This came after a two-year absence of its annual meetings due to the Covid-19 pandemic. With the uplifting of all restrictions, SMCU welcomed over 300 of its member-owners at the Sacred Heart College Auditorium in San Ignacio Town, Cayo.

Present were the Belize Credit Union League and others sister Credit Unions. The meeting was scheduled to start at 5:00 p.m., however, due to power outage was delayed until 5:50 p.m. At the meeting members heard from all committees: Credit Committee, Supervisory Committee, and the Board of Directors. Members were presented with an update on the operations of the Credit Union for the past 2 years, and the impact of the pandemic on business, in particular the loans portfolio and profits. The newest product of the Credit Union was also introduced: Online Banking, where members will be able to conduct transactions online as opposed to coming into the office.

Member-owners were provided an opportunity to express their concerns and praises to the Board of Directors, and a commitment to more effective and better member service was given.

Due to the inability to host the Annual General Meeting for 2 years, all posts of the various committees and board were up for election, namely 5 vacancies for Board of Directors, 3 for Credit Committee and 3 of the Supervisory Committee. Elections were done via secret ballots, as per the Credit Union’s bi-laws, and overseen by the Belize Credit Union League with the following members elected to serve:

Board of Directors
President: Dr. John Morris
Vice President: Ms. Seidy Garcia
Treasurer: Mr. Carlton Mckoy
Secretary: Mr. Elmer Juarez
Educations Director: Mrs. Nelida Sabido

Credit Committee
Mrs. Santos Tesecum
Mr. Manuel Medina
Mr. Fabio Carballo

Supervisory Committee
Mrs. Irma Sanchez
Ms. Karen Perez
Ms. Laura Sierra

Members also participated in a series of raffles which included cash prizes, a refrigerator, and an early bird cash prize. The Annual General Meeting officially closed at 10:30 p.m.
