By Rubén Morales Iglesias: Assassins beat the Benque Basketball Academy 64-22 in the first game of the Benque and San Ignacio/Santa Elena Basketball Championships at the Victor Galvez Resilience Center in San Ignacio on Saturday.
The Western championship is part of the National Sports Council Basketball Tournaments which will end with a National Tournament in Belize City in August.
Games are being organized by the Cayo Sports Council (CSC), Benque Sports Council (BSC) and the San Ignacio & Santa Elena Basketball Association (SSBA). Jeremy Carbajal led the Assassins in the U-15 Category with 22 points. Roy ‘Sonny’ Valentine added 13 while Andre Pinelo hauled in eight.
Hua Qiang Zhao scored ten for Benque and Jorge de la Fuente netted eight.
In the Open Men’s Division, the Assassins dropped Benque No-Hops 77-38 with main man Aaron Allison hitting 18. Shemar White hit 16 while Ryan ‘Mentes’ Carbajal and Jamie Carbajal each added ten.
For the Benque squad, Kyssion Kisling scored eight while Antwan McFadzean added six.
In the nightcap, also in the Open Men’s Division, Venom demolished Vikings 89-29. Ryan Duran totalled 19 points, Frank Fuller 14, Johan ‘Cutto’ Bermudez 14, Allizair Rhaburn 13, and Joel Montejo 11.
Akeem Manzanero scored eight for the Vikings.

This coming weekend games will play at the Deacon Cal Court in Benque Viejo del Carmen.
