Brother’s tough love forces a guilty plea

By Aaron Humes: Victoria Street man Dion Jones narrowly avoided jail on Friday after his brother declined to continue being his surety for bail.

Michael Jones applied to Magistrate Khiana Gordon to withdraw bail, stating that Dion “has been giving a lot of trouble in their family,” recently he “stone out ah neighbour” and he also wants to fight with his parents.

With bail revoked, Jones was facing jail time on a charge of possession of utensils used in taking a controlled substance.

He changed his plea to guilty and was fined $200 to be paid by July 29, in default two months’ imprisonment.

On May 25 he had been found with a 3-inch rusty metal pipe adapted for the use of smoking cocaine.
