By Rubén Morales Iglesias: Reggie Bullock took time out of his vacation in Belize to meet Belize’s young basketballers.
Hosted by the Ministry of Home Affairs, with the Leadership Intervention Unit in the Ministry of Youth and Sports, and with the collaboration of the Central Secondary Schools Association and the Belize Basketball Federation, Bullock met with Belizean young ballers at the Mexico Sports Center on Friday where high schools were participating in the Summer Time Buzzer Beater Tournament.
“Ahmadiyya Basketball League Welcomes Reggie Bullock to the Beautiful country of Belize. It was a great honour to see the change sports can have on the youth,” said the Ahmadiyya Basketball League, which has been very active organizing basketball tournaments for Belize’s youth. Many of the ABL players met with Bullock.
Jacob Leslie, President of the Belize Basketball Federation, speaking with News 5 Live, said that too many times our young people don’t feel valued, and he hoped that the young players who met Bullock appreciate that an NBA star took time out, of his own initiative, to meet them and talk to them.
Minister of Home Affairs Kareen Musa echoed those words saying that he was extremely grateful that Bullock, who recently played in the NBA Western Conference Finals with the Dallas Mavericks, would take time out to meet Belizean athletes. He also noted that Bullock set a franchise record for the Mavericks with 50 3-pointers in the NBA playoffs.
Musa said it means a lot when someone like Bullock wants to give back, who wants to meet the Belizean athletes and wants to interact with our youth.
