By Rubén Morales Iglesias: The Verdes Rebel Girls shocked the Sagitun GIRLZ 1-0 on Sunday at the Norman Broaster Stadium in San Ignacio in the NAWL A.

Mikayeli Guerra converted the only goal of the game in the 18’.

The win is the Verdes Rebels first victory of the season. Prior to this the Cayo-side had only been able to muster one point in seven outings.

The Sagitun GIRLZ had expressed in a social media post that they expected to face a “a tough Verdes squad’ and that’s exactly what they found on Sunday.

The Verdes Rebel Girls finish their NAWL A championship with four points in last place.

For the Sagitun GIRZ, they fumbled the opportunity to grab second place from Rumberas who drew 1-1 with champions Jewel Fury. The Sagitun GIRLZ remain in third place but tied in points with the fourth place San Pedro Pirates. Both teams have ten points from seven games and one game remaining.

That backmatch, set for Saturday, could give second place to either of them. A draw will keep the standings as they are.
