Village Council Elections: PUP snatches San Jose Succotz, holds on to San Antonio, Cayo

By Zoila Palma Gonzalez: Village council nominations and elections continued around the country over the weekend.

In the West, the incumbent People’s United Party (PUP) managed to win San Jose Succotz after the UDP’s reign of 22 years in the village. Sherel Cocom managed to defeat the UDP’s Nancy Chan. Cayo West Area Representative Jorge Milin Espat congratulated the new Chairlady Cocom, and her team.

The PUP went uncontested in Arenal and Calla Creek.

In San Antonio, Cayo, the PUP held on to the Chairman and council seats. Aron Tzib emerged victorious as Chairman with 510 votes while his opponent Danny Mai received 268 votes.

Tzib’s full slate was elected in Cayo Central’s second-largest voting area and home to Cayo Central Area Representative, Alex Balona. Balona also extended congratulations to Tzib’s team in San Antonio.
