By Rubén Morales Iglesias: The Department of Rural Transformation is hosting a stakeholders follow-up meeting for the Multi-Annual Indicative Programme (MIP) in the Toledo District on Tuesday, said the Ministry of Rural Transformation, Community Development, Labour, and Local Government.
“The main objective of the meeting is to identify potential areas of interest and investment for the project’s priority area 1 in relation to green growth and sustainable socioeconomic development for the various stakeholders in the southern districts,” said the Ministry of Rural Transformation.
The Department of Rural Transformation is hosting the meeting in collaboration with the Ministry of Economic Development and the Consultants of the European Union.
In March, the first stakeholders meeting was held in Dangriga with the Nаtіоnаl Gаrіfunа Соunсіl (NGС) which hоѕtеd Ministry of Rural Transformation Сhief Executive Officer Vаlеntіnо Ѕhаl аnd thе Government tеаm. They discussed their challenges and experiences and their objectives in fostering green growth and sustainable economic development.
The Multi-Annual Indicative Programme is a six-year programme that has as its objective the advancement of the Government’s programme to alleviate rural poverty.
The European Union is funding the programme for southern Belize to the tune of $38.6 million as announced in February by Marianne Van Steen, Ambassador of the European Union to Belize, and Prime Minister John Briceño. The MIP which runs from 2012-2027 could have its first allocation increased after a mid-term review in 2024.
