By Benjamin Flowers: Deputy Mayor Micah Goodin and Tarique James will need to explain, in writing to the Belize Police Department, why they should be able to keep their gun licenses, after a shooting incident on Newtown Barracks last month.
Police Commissioner Chester Williams confirmed this afternoon that Goodin and James have been formally served with letters to “show cause” as to why their gun licenses should not be revoked.
“They will have fourteen days in which to reply to that letter,” Williams added.
On the night of the incident, Goodin reportedly tried to bring an end to an altercation, and it is alleged that when he drove off shots were fired from his vehicle, and James reportedly used his own licensed firearm to return fire.
Since the incident, Belize City Councilors have called on Goodin to resign from the post of Deputy Mayor, and the council is expected to meet tomorrow to decide whether or not they will take action against him.
