By Rubén Morales Iglesias: The National Amateur Women’s League (NAWL) holds two backmatches at Independence and San Ignacio on Saturday to close the regular season.

In the NAWL A, the Sagitun Girlz host San Pedro Pirates on Saturday, June 18, at 3:00 pm at Michael Ashcroft Stadium in Independence. At present, both have ten points, two behind second place Rumberas who’ve already completed their regular season games. The Sagitun GIRLZ are in third place and the San Pedro Pirates in fourth. A win for either pushes them ahead of Rumberas and will give them the second position.

If that happens, the winners will play Rumberas in the home and away semifinals. The losers will play Jewel Fury.

Should they draw, the Sagitun GIRLZ remain third and will play Rumberas, while the San Pedro Pirates finish fourth and will play Jewel Fury.

The other backmatch is a NAWL B game which features the Santa Elena Strikers facing the Corozal United Warriors on Saturday, June 18 at 3:00pm at the Norman Broaster Stadium in San Ignacio.

The Corozal United Warriors have had a dismal season losing all their games but a win over the Santa Elena Strikers, who have only won once and have three points, would tie the two teams in points. However, because of the huge goal differential that won’t affect the standings but it would save some face the Corozal side who must be commended for showing up for all their games.

As it stands, in the NAWL B semifinals which start on June 25, top seeded Bay City will play fourth seeded Santa Elena Strikers while the second seeded Cayo Dreamers will match up against third place Wagiya SC United.
