By BBN Staff: Starling Perez, a Belize City resident who was charged for the murder of Dangriga fisherman Carlos Reyes was found guilty in the Supreme Court this week.

Justice Antoinette Moore handed down the verdict on Tuesday, after a trial without a jury. Justice Moore deferred Perez’s sentencing to July 21.

The incident occurred on March 27, 2019, in Dangriga Town. Starling Perez traveled from Belize City to Dangriga Town where he stayed overnight.

The following day, on March 28, 2019, sometime around 6:15 p.m., Perez and another man visited the residence of Carlos Reyes in Dangriga Town where Perez accosted Reyes in his yard.

Perez then pulled a firearm from his pants and shot Reyes multiple times and though he managed to flee the scene, Reyes died of his injuries soon after at his home.
