Belize commits to bolster trade ties in the UK

By Zoila Palma Gonzalez: This week, Minister of Tourism and Diaspora Relations, Anthony Mahler met with UK agents and tour operators including Audley Travel, Explora, Journey Latin America, and Intrepid as Belize focuses on bolstering trade ties with the United Kingdom.

The purpose of the meeting with the tourism minister and UK travel agents was to promote Belize as a holiday destination for UK travelers, Travel weekly reports.

Minister of Tourism Mahler says that Belize and other neighboring countries will continue to lobby airlines for a direct route from the UK.

“If you live in the USA you probably know about Belize but in the UK that brand awareness is a little bit less, and we’re working with our partners here in the UK to improve it. We’re leading training sessions and having continuous dialogue with the trade, as well as leading fam trips to Belize to show people what the destination is about,” Mahler said.

Mahler notes that the Ministry of Tourism is attempting to build up the relationship with the trade because of the importance it has for Belize’s economy.

During the meeting, Minister Mahler told the UK agents that Belize boasts the 2^nd largest barrier reef in the western hemisphere and 3 of the 4 atolls in the world. “We are rich with flora and fauna with a dense tropical rainforest, and we also have temples all over the country with the history of the Maya,” Mahler added.

Belize is the only English-speaking country in Central America and UK travelers can enjoy the rich culture and food of the Belizean people.
