By Rubén Morales Iglesias: The Belize Olympic Day activities are postponed due to the forecast inclement weather expected during the weekend.
“Due to the forecast of inclement weather, the Olympic Day event scheduled for Sunday, June 19th has been postponed. We apologize for the inconvenience of rescheduling,” said the Belize Olympic and Commonwealth Games Association (BOGCA) on Wednesday.
Though BOGCA hasn’t yet said when the Olympic Day activities will be held, according to a post by the FFB, Olympic Day will be celebrated on October 26 at the Belize City Civic Center with the participation of the different sporting associations in the country.
“Olympic Day is much more than just a sports event, it is a day for the world to get active, learn about Olympic values and discover new sports,” said BOGCA.
“You are invited to the CIVIC Center … as we celebrate with all your favourite sports federations. Meet the athletes, play games and learn about the role of sport in society. It is an event for the whole family,” said BOGCA.
The participating sporting associations are: Belize Table Tennis Association, Belize Volleyball Association, Belize Tennis Association, Belize Karate Federation, Football Federation of Belize, Belize Athletics Association, Belize National Triathlon Association, Cycling Federation of Belize, Belize Sailing Association, Judo Belize Federation, Belize Basketball Federation, Belize Softball Federation, Belize Body Building & Fitness Federation, Belize Weightlifting Federation, Belize National Fencing Federation, and the Belize Canoe Association.
Tony Gillings of Rugby Belize said, in the comments section of the BOGCA announcement on social media, that Rugby Belize will not be participating this year.
