National Hurricane Center monitors Hurricane Blas and another possible Tropical Depression in Eastern Pacific

Posted: Thursday, June 16, 2022. 9:50 am CST.

By Zoila Palma Gonzalez: Hurricane Blas located off Mexico’s south Pacific coast has prompted port closures in Mexico.

Blas continues to move West- Northwestward and remains a Category 1 Hurricane.

Maximum sustained winds are near 85 mph with higher gusts.

The National Hurricane Center (NHC) noted that steady weakening is expected to begin Friday night and continue through the weekend.

The NHC is also monitoring another disturbance located a couple of hundred miles south of the coasts of Guatemala and El Salvador that could develop into a tropical depression.

This system is forecast to drift erratically through the weekend but begin a more pronounced westward motion by early next week.

Heavy rains are possible across portions of El Salvador, Guatemala, and southeastern Mexico during the next several days.

There is an 80% chance of formation of this system during the next 48 hours.
