One beer for the price of 10: Man fined for public drinking

By BBN Staff: A Honduran man paid 10 times the cost of his Lighthouse beer which he was caught consuming publicly.

In Belize City Magistrate’s court, where he appeared unrepresented, Jorge Miguel Albert Casana, pleaded guilty to one count of public drinking on Wednesday.

Casana was reportedly arrested for drinking in front of a shop on Antelope Street last Friday. And while the fine was only $20 plus $5 cost of court for a total of $25; that’s still 10 times the cost of his one pint.

He must pay his fine by July 15 or in default, one week of jail time.
