Belize now has 7 medals, 4 gold, 2 silver, 1 bronze, at U-18 Central American Athletics Championships in Nicaragua

By Rubén Morales Iglesias: Belize has now won 7 medals, 4 gold, 2 silver and 1 bronze, at U-18 Central American Athletics Championships in Nicaragua

Belize won gold and bronze in the 110m hurdles 0.91 at U-18 Central American Athletics Championships in Managua, Nicaragua on Saturday morning improving our total count to 7 medals, 4 gold and 3 bronze.

Glenford Williams won the gold medal in 14.91 seconds while Rupert Cardinez captured the bronze medal in 16.23 seconds.

Williams now has a gold and a silver. On Friday evening he won silver in the 100m clocking 11.28 seconds. He can bag another medal today as he has qualified to the final of the 200m scheduled for 5:00 pm.

On Friday, Mia Sylvester captured gold in the U-20 shot put and discus. In shot put, she set a new Central American record with a 13.75 metres throw. Her discus gold was won with a 40.85 metros hurl.

Kirk Elrington won Belize’s other gold medal on Friday as he captured the top spot in the U-18 triple jump. His jump was measured at 13.76 metres.

Joas Mejia also won silver in the U-20 triple jump measuring 14.10 metres.

Belize has a total of eleven athletes at the regional championships which started on Friday and end on Sunday. The team is aiming at more medals but it’s not always easy.

Jada Logan finished 7th in the Women’s U-18 long jump, Samya Lamb was 4th in the U-18 100m, and Thayesse Alvarez finished 5th in the U-18 triple jump and 6th in the long jump. She competed in the 100m semifinals but didn’y qualify to the final.

In the Men’s, Andre Armstrong was 5th in the U-18 1500m and 8th in the 800m. Jahson Logan finished 4th in the U-18 discus and qualified for the shot put final with the second best throw. That final comes up on Saturday night.

Joas Mejia who was second in the triple jump, was 5th in the U-20 100m.

And Cardinez, who was third in the 110 hurdles, was 8th in the 100m. He competed in the 200m semifinals but didn’t make the final.
