By BBN Staff: A 40-year-old Belize City resident was remanded to the Belize Central Prison without bail by two separate courts.
Denroy Anthony Lopez first appeared in the Belize City Magistrate’s Court on Friday, charged with the rape of a woman and escaping unlawfully custody at the Queen Street Police station.
He was allowed to make a plea for the escape charge, to which he pleaded not guilty; however, due to the nature of the offense, no plea was taken from him with respect to the charge of rape. For the rape charge, he was remanded to prison until August 19.
The allegations against him are that he raped a woman on Tuesday, June, and while he was detained at the police station on Thursday with respect to the breach of a protection order against him, he escaped from the station but was later apprehended.
After his appearance in the Magistrate’s Court, Lopez would appear in the Belize City Family Court, where he was charged for breaching the protection order and was again remanded to prison without bail.
