By Aaron Humes, Caye Caulker: It almost didn’t happen – but the annual Caye Caulker Lobster Fest will proceed on the weekend of July 1 according to village chair Seleny Villanueva Pott.
As early as February, Villanueva told reporters here on Saturday, the Lobster Fest Committee wasn’t sure the event would proceed with COVID-19 and related economic issues. But visitors to La Isla Cariñosa can come expecting to have a grand time with all the lobster – and everything else – you can eat.
Rooms are nearly booked out so make haste and make your reservations in order to have the best experience possible.
The Lobster Fest is one of three held around this time of year, following San Pedro and Placencia. It celebrates the return of the spiny sea creature that goes into mating season between February and June.
Villanueva told us that the Council and Committee decided to forego seeking international attractions, using the event to build the capacity of Belizean artists to entertain. It is part of the Council’s efforts to build sustainability in the village and keep it as homey and comfortable as possible while allowing room for growth.
So mark your calendars for July 1-3 and we’ll see you there!
