By Aaron Humes: Tonight two shelters have been opened as heavy rain throughout the Orange Walk District has led to flooding in Orange Walk Town and villages.
According to the National Emergency Management Organization (NEMO), its operations center for Orange Walk is activated and the Government schools in San Jose and Carmelita villages are being opened for use as shelters.
Traffic is being diverted to the Guinea Grass/Palmar Road as a culvert near Tower Hill was washed away. Motorists are being urged to exercise caution in the area of Guinea Grass and San Jose as the roads are underwater.
Village Council chairpersons are being asked to be alert for potential evacuation situations and contact the Orange Walk NEMO office at 302-2232, 302-3228 or the coordinators Juan Leiva at 614-7177 or Ms Alvarez at 615-7452.
