Alicia Thompson captures Women’s National Time Trial Championship

By Rubén Morales Iglesias: Belize Bank Swoosh’s Alicia Thompson won the Women’s National Time Trial Championship on the John Smith Road between Ladyville and Western Paradise on Sunday.

Thompson stopped the clock at 26 minutes and 47 seconds, winning the 10-mile race over Paulita Chavarria of the Chavarria Cycling Team by two minutes and 16 seconds.

Second-place Chavarria clocked 29:03.

Thompson improved her time by a 01:33 compared to last year’s third place when she ran the race in 28:20. In fact, her time is two seconds faster than the 26:49 clocked by winner Nicole Gallego in 2021.

C-Ray’s Gabrielle Gabourel took third place and the top spot in the Junior Category with a time of 30:30. Last year, Gabourel ran the race in 29:36.

Top Flight’s Chelsey Gillett finished fourth in 34:42. Gillett was second in the Junior Category.
