By Rubén Morales Iglesias: Belize completed its participation at the U-18 and U20 Central American Athletics Championships in Nicaragua with eleven medals, 8 gold, 2 silver, and 1 bronze.
Glenford Williams, Mia Sylvester, and Kirk Elrington led the Belize contingent with two gold medals each. Williams also claimed a silver medal.
Joas Mejia captured a gold and a silver, Jahson Logan a gold, and Rupert Cardinez a bronze medal.
Williams won his first gold medal on Saturday morning by winning the 110m hurdles in 14.91 seconds. Cardinez won his bronze in that same event clocking 16.23 seconds.
Elrington claimed his first gold medal on Friday as he captured the top spot in the U-18 triple jump. His jump was measured at 13.76 metres. His second gold came on Saturday when outdid the competition on the long jump with a 6.41m stretch.
For his part, Logan took gold in the U-20 shot put with a throw of 13.85 metres.
As a collective team, Belize, with 11 athletes, finished in 5th position. Costa Rica, sporting the biggest contingent at the games with 53 participants, was tops with 29 gold, 32 silver, and 22 bronze. Belize was 3rd in the U-18 Men’s Championship
