BREAKING: Passing tropical wave to exacerbate flooding in North

Posted: Monday, June 20, 2022. 9:17 am CST.

By Aaron Humes: Chief Meteorologist Ronald Gordon says the rain will not be going away for a few more days.

Since last week, Belize has been dealing with a low-pressure system that was being monitored for potential cyclone development. It did not develop, but dumped up to ten inches of rain countrywide, particularly in the Corozal and Orange Walk Districts, on Friday and Saturday.

The tropical wave crossing the country today is expected to release a further two to three inches of rain per day countrywide, exacerbating flooding conditions. Gordon however noted that rain totals may be higher in certain areas.

Gordon says the weather is expected to improve beginning later on Wednesday and into Thursday, but a flood warning remains in effect in the North and a flood watch for other parts of the country.
