By Benjamin Flowers: Police say that 44-year-old Glenford Vernon, who was fatally shot last week, was shot over an issue he knew nothing about.
Vernon was at a house on Dolphin Drive, on Thursday, June 16, when two men on a motorcycle rode past and the passenger fired several shots hitting him in the rib cage and thigh. He was transported to the Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital for treatment but later died of his injuries.
Today, head of communications for the Office of the Commissioner of Police, ASP Fitzroy Yearwood, said that police investigations revealed that Vernon was socializing with other people at the address, who had some animosity with the shooter.
“In his absence, the persons that he was associating with had a problem with other persons. And apparently, those persons returned, unbeknownst to mister Vernon that something took place before his arrival. So we know that he could not have been the intended target,” Yearwood said.
Police have interviewed several people following the incident, but no one has been detained or charged as yet.
