By Rubén Morales Iglesias: 501 Valvoline’s Oscar Quiroz on Sunday won his third consecutive National Cycling Time Trial Championship organized by the Cycling Federation of Belize on the John Smith Road.
Quiroz clocked 44 minutes and 32 seconds to win the 20-mile race over 501 Valvoline teammate Derrick Chavarria (45:59) by a minute and 27 seconds.
In 2019, Quiroz captured the National Time Trial Championship held on the Burrell Boom Road on Sunday, June 22, 2019, in 43 minutes and 39 seconds.
There was no race in 2020 because of the COVID-19 pandemic but when action resumed in 2021, Quiroz wоn thе Nаtionаl Tіmе Тrіаl Сhаmріоnѕhір again on Sunday, June 13. He clocked 45 mіnutеѕ аnd 13 ѕесоndѕ.
U-23 Еrіс Тrарр оf Wеѕtrас Аllіаnсе, who wаѕ ѕесоnd last year in 45:53, was third this time in 46:03.
G-Flow claimed the next two spots with Henri Li clocking 47:09 in fourth and Giovanni Lovell time at 47:22 in fifth.
Cayo Steel’s Robert Liam Stewart finished sixth in 47:29. Westrac Alliance’s Byron Pope was seventh in 48:18. M&M Engineering’s Carroll Devin Azueta was eighth in 48:23.
C-Town Cycling Team’s Shervin Budna took ninth in 48:52, and Michael Williams Cycling Team’s Patrick Williams tenth in 49:35.
In the individual Categories, Quiroz was tops in the Elite’s, followed by Lovell in second and Pope in third.
Derrick Chavarria took the U-23 Category. Trapp claimed second, and Li third.
Stewart was the Masters champion. Jody Williams was second and Kent ‘Bob’ Gabourel third.
