Police are suspicious about the circumstances that led to the electrocution of a six-year-old boy in Maskall Village

By Benjamin Flowers: Police say that they are conducting a thorough investigation to ascertain the circumstances that led to the electrocution of a six-year-old boy in Maskall Village, Belize District, over the weekend.

ASP Fitzroy Yearwood, head of communications for the Office of the Commissioner of Police, said that the child’s mother reported to police that he was over at the neighbor’s house when she heard a scream. She made checks and found the neighbor holding the child.

“She explained that he put some sort of wire into an outlet,” Yearwood said.

The child was rushed to the Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital for treatment but did not survive the ordeal. Yearwood said that the police are taking a special look at the case due to a discrepancy with the facts presented by the neighbor.

“When our investigators got to the scene, the wire was not where they alleged it was; it was behind the house somewhere,” Yearwood said. “That is why we have to clarify and see why they would want to move it.”

Yearwood said that once investigators submit their final report police will know what, if any charges, need to be filed.
