By Benjamin Flowers: Last night, the National Meteorological Service of Belize issued a notice of an incoming tropical wave that should cross Belize today; this morning, schools have taken note of the inclement weather and have begun canceling classes.
Breaking Belize News has confirmed thus far that at least two schools, St. Ignatius R.C. Primary School and Anglican Diocesan Pre-School have issued notices to parents that classes have been canceled due to the weather.
Our readers are advised to ensure that they follow information from official sources for their updates, and liaise with their children’s school directly if they have concerns.
Belize has been receiving consistent rains since the weekend that have caused flooding, particularly in the Orange Walk District, where flood waters washed away a culvert near Tower Hill. While the rains arrived over the weekend, authorities had been warning since last week that flood conditions were imminent.
On Friday, June 17, the Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security, issued a warning to farmers in flood-prone areas to take measures in preparation for flood conditions.
This is a developing story.
