American Airlines ends service to 3 cities due to a staff shortage

Posted: Tuesday, June 21, 2022. 8:50 am CST.

By Zoila Palma Gonzalez: America’s flagship airline, American Airlines will reportedly end service to 3 cities due to pilot shortage, marking the latest drawback amidst thousands of flight cancellations.

The airline will drop service to Toledo, Ohio; Ithaca, New York; and Islip, New York, on September 7th in response to a “regional pilot shortage.”

An airline spokesperson said that the airline will proactively reach out to customers scheduled to travel after this date to offer alternate arrangements, the Hill reports.

Air travel has surged with more people traveling for the first time since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Airlines have tried their best to keep up with the demand especially after shedding millions of jobs at the start of the pandemic.

Over the weekend, thousands of flights were canceled or delayed and other airlines are also cutting flights from their daily schedule.

At this time, regional carriers owned by American announced that they would include significant pay increases to attract and retain pilots.
