Chunox Fisherman fined over $3,000 for undersized conchs

By BBN Staff: A Chunox Fisherman caught for the first time with illegal products at sea was handed over $3,000 in fines.

He is 30-year-old Wilder Jaseal Lenarez, a Fisherman of Chunox Village, Corozal Town. On June 5, authorities caught him on a vessel name Isannie 2 at Saddle Caye, Lighthouse Reef Atoll where he was found in possession of 44 market clean partially processed conchs that did not exceed 3 ounces in weight.

Lenarez was charged with possession of undersized conchs for which he pleaded guilty and fined $1,200 plus a $5.00 cost of court which he must pay by November 15, 2022, in default, 3 months imprisonment. For the 44 undersized conchs, Lenarez was slapped with an additional penalty fine of $50 per conch which added up to $2,200, for a total of $3,410.

Senior Magistrate Tricia Pitts-Anderson has given Lenarez until December 15, 2022, to pay in default, the court will seize and sell his personal items to cover the cost.
