Police investigate the burning of Ella’s Cool Spot as efforts begin to restore it

By Aaron Humes: Police are presently investigating a fire that completely destroyed Ella’s Cool Spot on Karuba South Front Street, Hopkins Village, Stann Creek District this morning.

So far according to police, the cause of the fire is not known and neither the wooden-thatch roof building nor its contents were insured.

Owner Ella Carr had locked up around 10 p.m. Sunday and was informed of the fire in progress early this morning.

Meanwhile, a GoFundMe account has been started to obtain funds to rebuild the establishment.

The donation page explains: “Ella Carr is one of Hopkins Village’s finest entrepreneurs and her business, Ella’s Cool Spot is nothing short of the most important meeting place in the village. Besides being a place where locals, ex-pats, and tourists can all come together, it is the host for the best parties, celebrating our most important traditions. We need to get Ella’s Cool Spot up and fully running again before the holidays in November. If you love Hopkins, women entrepreneurs, or Ella herself, please donate what you can to help her rebuild. 100% of proceeds will be donated to the rebuilding effort.”

Thus far about US$900 (BZ$1,800) has been raised.
