By Zoila Palma Gonzalez: Prince William, the Duke of Cambridge, is celebrating his 40th birthday and many are saying that he is already changing the way things are done by the monarch.

The approach being taken by Prince William is partly guided by a tour of the Caribbean conducted earlier this year by the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge. During that tour, Prince William and Kate visited Jamaica, Belize, and the Bahamas.

After the tour, Prince William issued a statement reaffirming their commitment to service and to “doing things differently”.

“Catherine and I are committed to service. For us, that’s not telling people what to do. It is about serving and supporting them in whatever way they think best, by using the platform we are lucky to have,” he stated.

In addition, he spoke about the Commonwealth of Nations, “It is why tours such as this reaffirm our desire to serve the people of the Commonwealth and to listen to communities around the world. Who the Commonwealth chooses to lead its family in the future isn’t what is on my mind.”

Prince William also said that countries should be able to rule themselves.

“We’re in the 21st century, we should be doing things differently, countries should be able to rule themselves, decide who they have as their head of state. I’m not going to be an imperial ruler,” he asserted.

During their recent visit to Belize, the Duke and Duchess tour to the Аktе’іl fаrm tо vіеw ѕuѕtаіnаblе fаrmіng рrасtісеѕ was called off аftеr vіllаgеrѕ рrоtеѕtеd thе Dukе’ѕ соnnесtіоnѕ tо Flоrа аnd Fаunа Іntеrnаtіоnаl, whісh hаѕ dесlаrеd а 12-thоuѕаnd асrе рrореrtу dееmеd tо bе раrt оf thе Мауа’ѕ соmmunаl lаnd ѕрасе іn thе vіllаgе оf Іndіаn Сrееk оff-lіmіtѕ fоr thеіr uѕе аѕ “рrіvаtе рrореrtу.”

The Duke and Duchess then enjoyed a first-hand experience of chocolate making at the Che’il Mayan Chocolate farm.

The tour also included vibrant cultural presentations by the Garifuna community in Hopkins.
