Global cases of Monkeypox soar to over 3,000

Posted: Wednesday, June 22, 2022. 8:36 pm CST.

By Zoila Palma Gonzalez: The World Health Organization (WHO) continues to closely monitor the increase in cases of monkeypox around the world.

As of today, the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) noted that there were 3,098 cases of monkeypox.

In the United States of America, there have been 141 reported cases of the disease.

The CDC noted that it is tracking multiple cases of the disease being reported in several countries and is also urging healthcare providers to be alert for patients with rash illnesses.

Seventy-two deaths had been reported in countries where monkeypox is already endemic.

However, the WHO does not recommend mass vaccination at this time.

Although the majority of reported cases have spread through sexual intercourse, monkeypox is not considered a sexually transmitted disease.
