By Rubén Morales Iglesias: The Belize Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) of the United Nations Representative Dr. Crispim Moreira, who is currently visiting Belize, handed the Food System Profile-Belize to the Ministry of Agriculture, Food Security, and Enterprise (MAFSE).
Moreira presented the profile to Agriculture Minister Jose Abelardo Mai.
According to MAFSE, the Food System Profile-Belize “highlights several issues with food systems in Belize, such as the fact that despite our being able to produce 60% of our food, some sectors of the population still undergo food insecurity”.
MAFSE said the report also points out Belize’s untapped potential of agrifood systems due to territorial bottlenecks and issues dealing with climate change and better inclusion of women and children.
