By Aaron Humes: A judgment of $145,000 in total damages was issued on behalf of former Deputy Prime Minister Hugo Patt, who accused members of the Government’s Commission of Inquiry on the Sale of Assets of breaches of natural justice and Constitutional rights.
$95,000 of the total is in compensatory damages and $50,000 in vindicatory damages according to Court sources, in addition to costs.
The Commission’s report named several former Government ministers and employees including Patt; fellow former Minister Godwin Hulse and former Prime Minister Dean Barrow, but each has brought or plans to bring lawsuits seeking clearing of their names.
Patt was represented by Senior Counsel Dean Barrow in his case; the ex-Prime Minister has brought a separate lawsuit concerning the allegations made against him.
