By Rubén Morales Iglesias: Two Government Ministers on Wednesday had a first-hand experience witnessing the Sacred Maya Deer Dance.
The Ministry of Human Development, Families, and Indigenous Peoples’ Affairs said it believes in the cultural preservation of the indigenous people and cultures of Belize and sponsored the presentation, said the Government of Belize Press Office in a press release.
To that end, Minsters Dolores Balderamos Garcia and Oscar Requena joined to celebrate the unique Mayan cultural experience of the sacred Maya Deer Dance in the village of Jalacte in the Toledo District.
The Ministers were also given specially crafted Maya bags by the community leaders and treated to traditional Mayan food including handmade fire hearth corn tortillas.
The two ministers also participated in other traditional Mayan dances.
