By BBN Staff: The National Hurricane Center (NHC) continues to closely monitor the situation in the Caribbean and Gulf of Mexico.

The official start of the Atlantic Hurricane Season is June 1 while the start of the Pacific Hurricane season is May 15.

And, in the Pacific, Tropical storm Celia is forecast to become a hurricane very soon.

In the Atlantic, Tropical Storm Alex has been the only named storm.

The NHC is now monitoring 2 tropical waves in the Atlantic, one in the Caribbean and the other in the Gulf of Mexico.

The first tropical wave is near Puerto Rico in the Caribbean Sea and continues to move west.

The second tropical wave is near the southwestern Gulf of Mexico and is moving west.

The public is reminded to monitor the weather situation and to remain prepared and alert since it is forecast to be an active hurricane season.
