COVID-19 update: Revision of definition of active cases halves total

By Aaron Humes: There is no miracle behind today’s COVID-19 update.

According to the Ministry of Health and Wellness, “The isolation period for COVID-19 patients has been reduced to 7 days from the day of the positive test 𝙤𝙣𝙡𝙮 in regard to asymptomatic cases or cases with at least 24 hours since last displaying symptoms. Those with severe symptoms or hospitalizations will require evaluation from a medical doctor to be classified as recovered. Following this, the case definition for an active case has been updated and so there is a corresponding decrease in the number of active cases.”

With the 162 new cases added today, the number of active cases is 1,014 countrywide.

One person remains hospitalized and no new deaths were reported.

62 new cases were reported in the Belize District, 34 in Cayo District, 26 in Orange Walk District, 15 in Corozal District, 13 in Toledo District and 12 in Stann Creek District.
