Flood threats subsiding

Posted: Friday, June 24, 2022. 10:53 am CST.

By Aaron Humes: With a return to fair weather countrywide, rivers are receding from flood stage according to the National Hydrological Service.

The only remaining flooded area is the approach to the Crooked Tree Lagoon at the causeway, with water levels below the causeway and receding.

Waters are also receding on the Sibun River at Freetown Sibun and in watersheds on the eastern slopes of the Maya Mountains; on the Sittee River at Kendal Bridge, the Swasey and Bladen branches of the Monkey River and on the Deep River at Medina Bank.

On the Southern Lagoon near Gales Point Village, above normal and steady levels are expected.

The next flood advisory will be issued as necessary.
