Man caught just after having unlawful sex with teenage girl sentenced to five years in prison

By BBN Staff: This week, a Belize City man was sentenced to five years in prison for unlawful sex with a minor.

Steven Castillo was arrested and charged in 2019 after a police mobile patrol unit passing an empty lot at mile 1.5 on the George Price Highway approached his work vehicle and found him in the vehicle along with a 15-year-old girl who was wearing a high school uniform. When questioned, the minor told police that the two had just finished having sex.

Castillo was tried and convicted in May of 2020 in a trial without jury and was awaiting sentencing. At the sentencing hearing held on Wednesday, the judge sentenced him to five years but deducted one month from the sentence after considering the mitigation pleas made on Castillo’s behalf. He will spend a total of 4 years and 11 months in prison, notwithstanding time served.
