Police arrest Shemar Nunez in connection with murder of Benjamin Hyde Sr.; Shooter still at large

By Benjamin Flowers: Police have made an arrest in connection with the shooting death of Benjamin Hyde Sr. which occurred in Belize City last Sunday.

Head of Communications for the Office of the Commissioner of Police, Fitzroy Yearwood said that police have officially arrested and charged Shemar Nunez, for the crime of conspiracy to commit murder.

“Investigators believe that they have enough evidence to bring him in front of the court for his involvement in what I would like to call a ‘lay-and-wait’ murder…” Yearwood said. “Investigators have [the] motive at this time and as soon as we bring the actual assailant in front of the court I will be able to discuss motive with you.”

Hyde, 49, was riding his bicycle at the corner of East Canal and King Street when he was shot multiple times and died on the spot. His death notably took place just a few yards from Police Precinct #1, which is at the corner of King Street and Far West Street.
